“And Jesus said, ‘Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.’” Matthew 18:3 (NIV)

Today’s Missy Motivation Monday was an easy choice for me to write about, as today is Mia’s 13th birthday. As most of you know, she has been through quite a few physical challenges in her young life because she was born with a severe cleft lip and palate. Even though she has had multiple surgeries, extensive recoveries and still sleeps every night with an invasive head device, she perseveres and has a “never-give-up” attitude. Yes, sometimes she expresses her disappointment at having to strap it on every night, but she endures and accepts, trusting that her mom, dad, and team of doctors know best.

Maybe that’s what Jesus meant when he said we have to “change” to become like little children. Is he implying that we have grown out of our trusting spirit? Is he saying that we have given up on things in our life? Does he want us to forget all of our problems and just look to him for the answers? Probably all of the above.

Today’s motivation is simple: Look to Jesus.

Mia’s favorite verse is Psalm 46:10, “Be still and know that I am God.”

Mia motivates me today and almost every day to remember to leave my problems at Jesus’ feet. He has already taken care of them.

Happy 13th Birthday, Mia! You are my inspiration.

Beautiful! Happy birthday to Mia!

This has been a difficult summer as my mother’s health was declining. Last Tuesday, she left this earth and went to be with Jesus. I find myself overwhelmed with all the things that must be done after the service, and beginning the process of dealing with her loss.

Being reminded that I just need to look to Jesus and lay my burdens at His feet is something I needed to hear this morning.

Prayers are appreciated that I will not forget this on the difficult days.
